Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a Brazil marine survey quote?
Provide the state, exact marina, berth or yard, vessel particulars, construction, purpose and preferred date. Include report language, haul-out, sea trial, domestic travel and any insurer, lender or Brazilian Maritime Authority requirement.
Can one surveyor cover several Brazilian states?
Potentially, but Brazil’s distances make each state or coast a separate travel assignment. Flights, accommodation, local transport, facility access and the surveyor’s availability must be agreed.
Is a private pre-purchase survey a Brazilian government inspection?
No. The Brazilian Maritime Authority publishes separate NORMAM rules for recreational, commercial and foreign vessels and provides formal inspections through the competent Captaincy, Delegation or Agency. Confirm the applicable route first.
Can a yacht be surveyed in the Amazon or another inland location?
Potentially, subject to safe access, travel and the required facilities. Confirm river conditions, local transport, accommodation and whether an ashore inspection or specialist equipment is available.
Are travel, haul-out and sea trial included in the survey fee?
Only when expressly included. Flights, accommodation, taxis, yard fees, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel, translation and specialist testing can be separate.
Who appoints the marine surveyor?
The client appoints and instructs the independent surveyor directly after agreeing scope, fee, timing and terms. Brazil Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.
